[by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]¸ü¶àÌýÁ¦Çë·ÃÎÊ51VOA.COM [00:00.24]In Olympic sports, attention is now turning [00:04.92]to the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. [00:13.16]South Korean organizers say they hope to avoid the delays [00:18.88]and other problems organizers faced in Rio de Janiero. [00:25.24]In 1988, South Korea hosted the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul. [00:32.08]A slowing economy and budget shortfalls [00:37.88]caused delays in some projects in Rio. [00:42.28]Others were left unfinished. [00:45.03]Organizers in the Brazilian city were criticized for the delays. [00:51.32]They prevented complete testing of some Olympic buildings [00:56.16]and structures before the games started. [01:01.40]Australian officials complained of bad housing conditions after its athletes arrived. [01:09.32]They said the housing was "not habitable." [01:13.24]The Australian team stayed in a hotel while the problems were fixed. [01:21.04]Some Chinese athletes in Rio [01:24.25]posted pictures on social media of broken bathroom facilities. [01:30.92]Organizers of the Pyeongchang Olympics [01:35.88]say they learned some important lessons from the problems in Rio. [01:42.20]They have promised to complete all Olympic buildings [01:45.72]and infrastructure improvements in time to fix unexpected issues. [01:52.88]Yeo Hyung-koo is Secretary General of the Pyeongchang Organizing Committee. [02:00.88]"We are making an effort to ensure the Pyeongchang Olympics [02:06.32]will be progressive and successful [02:09.29]by having learned from Rio as a reference," he said. [02:14.64]The committee estimates the Pyeongchang Olympics will cost $12 billion. [02:22.56]This is much higher than the $4-$6 billion spent in Rio. [02:29.24]But it is far less than the $50 billion [02:33.56]spent on the 2014 Sochi Winter Games in Russia. [02:40.08]Earlier this month, the president of the Pyeongchang committee, [02:45.88]Lee Hee-beom, said all preparations were "fully on track" for the games. [02:54.74]"We will work hard for success at the Games in 2018." [03:01.72]Lee made the comments [03:03.42]during a meeting of the International Olympic Committee in Rio. [03:08.92]South Korean officials have said all 12 Olympic venues [03:14.88]are expected to be completed by September 2017. [03:21.76]Organizers plan to hold test events before the games [03:26.44]to identify and correct any problems. [03:31.08]One of the most expensive projects will be building a high-speed railway [03:38.18]linking the Pyeongchang mountain area to Seoul. [03:43.48]The train is expected to be finished by June 2017. [03:49.80]It will reduce the travel time of the 120-kilometer trip from four hours to one. [03:59.80]South Korea's central government is paying for infrastructure improvements, [04:06.72]as well as 75 percent of the costs for sports facilities. [04:13.96]The local government in Gangwon province will pay the remaining 25 percent. [04:22.60]Organizers have also said that 90 percent [04:28.00]of South Korea's Olympic sponsorship goal of $760 million [04:35.36]will be met by the end of this year. [04:39.92]Some local residents have complained that the games will result [04:44.64]in higher taxes and increased housing prices. [04:49.64]Officials, however, have pointed out that the area will benefit [04:55.90]from the new sports venues for many years to come. [05:01.24]They say plans have already been made [05:05.04]to use 10 of the 12 Olympic buildings after the games. [05:11.12]The facilities will be used for professional and amateur sports, [05:17.16]education, cultural events and exhibitions, officials said. [05:24.70]I'm Bryan Lynn.
