[ti:Too Much Tourism?] [by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM [00:01.88]Cities – particularly in Europe [00:05.52]– are increasingly taking steps against tourists. [00:10.68]Venice, Italy, for example, [00:13.40]is planning to bar some large passenger ships. [00:18.16]Barcelona, Spain, has placed restrictions on apartment rentals. [00:24.28]The problem these cities say they are dealing with is "overtourism" [00:30.04]-- too many tourists visiting at once. [00:34.08]Jonathan Keates is the chairman of the Venice In Peril Fund, [00:39.24]an aid and activist group. [00:42.44]He said too many people are crowding the walkways and canals of Venice, [00:48.92]interfering in what he calls a "still living city." [00:54.44]Taleb Rifai is the secretary general [00:58.08]of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). [01:05.68]He spoke recently to tourism ministers at London's World Travel Market. [01:12.64]He said the rise of slogans, such as "tourists go home" [01:18.52]and "tourists are terrorists," was "a wake-up call." [01:25.00]Anger about tourism could continue to grow [01:29.36]as more people travel every year. [01:33.12]The UNWTO estimates tourists will take 1.8 billion trips by 2030, [01:41.96]up from 1.2 billion in 2016. [01:47.08]Low-cost airline tickets are helping fuel the growth [01:51.56]in tourism numbers, along with increasing travel from China. [01:57.24]Yet many places depend on tourism for jobs and wealth. [02:02.96]Around 10 percent of the world's gross domestic product, [02:07.32]or GDP, comes from tourism. [02:12.08]Taleb Rifai said that growth is not "the enemy." [02:17.04]But, he said tourism must be made "sustainable and responsible" [02:23.20]to help local communities. [02:26.24]Ecuador permits only 100,000 visitors to the Galapagos Islands each year. [02:34.28]The Croatian city of Dubrovnik is considering permitting only 4,000 visitors daily. [02:42.48]Visitors have flooded the Adriatic Sea town [02:46.32]since it was used as a setting for the television series "Game of Thrones." [02:53.08]Other cities are urging tourists to visit less famous parts of town. [02:59.92]Prague, for example, has an "off the beaten track" tourist program. [03:06.48]London is promoting neighborhoods such as Greenwich and Richmond. [03:12.28]Barcelona has cracked down on unofficial housing rentals [03:17.48]and established a tourism council that includes residents, businesses, and unions. [03:25.48]Gloria Guevara is the president and CEO [03:29.52]of the London-based World Travel & Tourism Council. [03:34.60]"There is no one solution for all. [03:37.88]Every destination is different," she said. [03:41.92]Tim Fairhurst leads planning and policy at the European Tourism Association. [03:49.68]He said businesses do not want to put their customers in places [03:55.04]where they are treated as unwelcome. [03:58.44]He said simple measures can make a difference, [04:02.04]such as changing opening hours or increasing parking space. [04:07.84]"There are lots of ways in which we use our cities inefficiently," [04:12.60]he said, "We could do better." [04:15.92]I'm John Russell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
