[00:13.80]The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) [00:17.56]and the U.N.'s International Organization for Migration (IOM) are leading the effort. [00:25.12]USAID officials said the agency will provide $4 million to support the program. [00:34.48]The money will help Venezuelan migrants get official employment, [00:39.76]business training and language classes. [00:44.60]Venezuela is a Spanish-speaking nation while Brazil is a Portuguese-speaking country. [00:52.52]About 4.6 million Venezuelans have fled the political and economic crisis in that country. [01:01.76]Almost 900,000 have crossed the border into Brazil since 2018. [01:09.48]The Brazilian government says they are still entering Brazil at an average rate of 500 a day. [01:18.60]Most have continued on to other Spanish-speaking countries. [01:24.40]But 264,000 Venezuelans have applied to stay in Brazil. [01:32.00]As a result, social services in the Brazilian border state of Roraima have struggled to deal with immigrants. [01:42.12]The program supported by USAID and the IOM will work with the Brazilian military's efforts [01:50.16]to move Venezuelan immigrants to cities further south. [01:56.08]Migrants will have more opportunities for sustainable work and a new life there. [02:03.52]The program is called Economic Integration of Vulnerable Nationals from Venezuela in Brazil. [02:12.52]John Barsa, USAID assistant administrator for Latin America, launched the program in Brazil's capital, Brasilia. [02:24.80]He said it is not a long-term answer, but provides needed help until stability returns to Venezuela. [02:35.20]He added, "That will only happen when the illegitimate Maduro regime is no longer in power." [02:43.92]U.S. President Donald Trump's administration supports opposition leader Juan Guaidó [02:50.80]rather than Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. [02:55.52]USAID said it has already provided nearly $15 million to support Venezuelans in Brazil. [03:06.68]The Trump administration lowered the number of refugees from any country it will permit [03:12.88]to resettle in the United States in 2020 to 18,000. [03:19.68]That is the lowest level in the history of the modern refugee program. [03:26.40]Army Colonel George Kanaan oversees the border processing operation. [03:32.52]He said since April 2019, Brazil has moved 27,222 Venezuelan refugees and migrants to southern cities. [03:46.08]Jose Angel Perez and his family are among those refugees. [03:51.40]Perez was an oil truck driver for state oil company PDVSA in Anaco in eastern Venezuela. [04:02.20]He is hoping the new program will help find him work in Brazil. [04:08.36]He said, "I need a job, so does my wife. We plan to stay. Change will not come quickly in Venezuela." [04:19.36]I'm Jonathan Evans. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
