[00:09.88]She is providing free haircuts for them at hospitals in Bangkok. [00:17.32]Pornsupa says at first she was unsure about offering her service, thinking it was unimportant. [00:27.00]But now, she is pleased with the warm welcome she receives from health care workers. [00:35.52]Thailand's hair shops have been closed for more than a month [00:40.40]to help stop the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. [00:48.92]Pornsupa began her free service at the end of March. [00:54.96]On her first hospital visit, Pornsupa had planned on cutting the hair of six health workers. [01:02.96]Instead, she gave haircuts to 30 of them. [01:08.56]On her second visit, a group of 20 quickly turned into 50. [01:15.84]Pornsupa said, "They just kept coming. Some arrived in their medical gowns [01:22.32]and asked if they could get a haircut right away as they had to go to work." [01:29.48]At that point, she asked her friends to help her. [01:35.24]Bangkok Metropolitan Administration General Hospital is the fourth hospital where she has given haircuts. [01:43.68]The team provides about 50 haircuts each day. [01:49.56]For this kind of work, they would normally ask customers to pay 500 baht, or about $15. [01:59.76]Pornsupa wears protective clothing on all parts of her body as she works. [02:07.12]She uses a spray containing alcohol on her equipment between customers. [02:15.12]The haircutting team is not paid and Pornsupa says she is living on money she had saved. [02:23.68]She adds that she is just proud her skill is making a difference. [02:30.36]She told the Associated Press, "The doctors are so happy to get a haircut. [02:36.96]It's like we lift something off their chest, perhaps not chest but head. [02:43.52]I think they feel lighter and relaxed. [02:46.96]They all want to do something with their hair so it's easy to clean and ready for work." [02:55.32]For Dr. Teerapat Jittpoonkuson, it is the humanity behind the haircut that really counts. [03:03.12]He said, "I don't feel like this is merely a service I am getting. [03:09.52]It feels like more of a kindness given by a group of people to our hospital staff. [03:16.80]This is more than just a haircut." [03:20.40]I'm Jonathan Evans. [03:23.36]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
