[00:06.72]But more women are now teaching and training players [00:11.56]how to do their jobs better as coaches. [00:15.68]Last Sunday, two women coaches became Super Bowl champions [00:21.12]when their team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, [00:24.68]won the NFL championship game. [00:28.32]Maral Javadifar is a strength coach. [00:31.96]She helps players exercise so they can stay fit during the season. [00:38.08]If a player gets hurt, she helps them recover. [00:42.68]Lori Locust is a defensive line coach. [00:47.24]She works to help players on the first line of defense [00:51.92]against the other team. [00:54.64]They work as assistant coaches under Bruce Arians, [00:59.76]the head coach of the Buccaneers. [01:03.72]Cindy Boren is a sports reporter for The Washington Post. [01:09.60]She recently wrote about Javadifar and Locust. [01:13.96]She said those women and others [01:17.68]have the ability to coach the men. [01:20.68]"Bruce Arians' opinion on women and coaching [01:24.52]is that if you can teach, you can coach. [01:27.08]And he feels that it was more than time [01:32.56]for women to be on the staff. [01:34.20]And you know, he hired the first one, Jen Welter, [01:36.76]back five years ago, when he was the head coach in Arizona." [01:40.80]The Buccaneers coaches were not the first women [01:44.88]to coach in the NFL championship game. [01:48.00]The first female coach in the Super Bowl [01:51.80]was actually Katie Sowers of the San Francisco 49ers, [01:56.76]whose team lost to Kansas City in 2020. [02:01.72]In other sports, more women are now coaching men as well. [02:07.64]The National Basketball Association (NBA) [02:10.56]has a large number of women assistant coaches, [02:14.00]including Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Spurs. [02:20.44]Hammon was a player with the San Antonio Stars in the WNBA. [02:26.64]The WBNA is a league for female players founded by the NBA. [02:33.96]One year, Hammon could not play after an injury. [02:38.12]So she started helping the Spurs during some of their practices. [02:45.60]After Hammon stopped playing professional basketball, [02:49.12]San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich [02:52.36]offered her a job as an assistant coach. [02:56.48]In late December, Popovich was ejected [03:01.20]partway through a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. [03:06.12]Hammon made history [03:07.80]when she took over the team for the rest of the game. [03:11.60]Other NBA teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, [03:16.64]Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks [03:22.28]also have women coaches. [03:25.60]Lindsey Harding, a former WNBA player, [03:29.84]is now a coach with the Sacramento Kings. [03:33.16]She told ESPN that women are often afraid [03:37.52]of not being accepted by the players. [03:40.36]But in her experience, she said, [03:43.24]the players "aren't the problem at all." [03:46.24]Boren, the sports reporter, [03:49.52]said the high-level college and professional leagues [03:53.36]in women's basketball [03:55.40]make it easier for the men to accept the women. [03:58.84]They respect their credentials. [04:02.56]She noted that the NBA is probably the first league [04:07.76]that will have a female head coach. [04:11.56]"I think the attitudes toward women are a little more [04:15.24]advanced, a little more liberated than in football. [04:18.76]As a female sports writer, I can't tell you the number of times [04:23.56]I've heard ‘well, you never played the game, what do you know?' [04:26.40]Well, you know, it doesn't really matter. [04:29.08]And I think the NBA's a little more evolved on that and a little more open to it." [04:33.76]Women coaches are less involved in other professional sports. [04:40.00]The first woman to coach in a Major League Baseball game [04:43.72]appeared during an exhibition game [04:46.68]between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics in July 2020. [04:53.72]Alyssa Nakken, of the Giants, appeared on the field as the first base coach. [05:01.60]Jill Ellis coached the USA Women's Soccer team [05:05.72]to victory in the two most recent World Cups. [05:10.24]She was considered a candidate to be the coach for D.C. United [05:14.72]of Major League Soccer last winter. [05:17.92]But she was not chosen for the men's team. [05:22.24]In England, Emma Hayes is the manager for Chelsea's women's team. [05:28.40]She is one of the most successful managers [05:31.80]in the Women's Super League. [05:35.12]Hayes was recently asked if she wanted to coach a men's team. [05:39.56]She said she is already happy [05:41.92]coaching some of the best players in the world [05:44.48]and is not looking for a new job. [05:49.40]Boren said Hayes makes a good point. [05:53.40]Why take a job with a team that does not often win [05:57.72]just to make headlines? [06:00.12]She compared the world champion women's soccer team in the U.S. [06:05.24]with the men's team which did not make the last World Cup. [06:10.00]"I mean the men's national team may bring in money, [06:13.48]but how often do they win? They don't. [06:16.60]The U.S. Women's National Team [06:18.88]has been a proven winner for years. [06:21.04]You know, it is a juggernaut. [06:23.92]And why would you not want to be part of that?" [06:27.72]I'm Dan Friedell. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
