[00:09.16]Many Broadway productions are rushing to sell tickets [00:12.56]in the coming days to welcome back theater-goers. [00:17.36]New York Governor Andrew Cuomo [00:19.72]says Broadway theaters can reopen September 14. [00:24.68]They will be able to decide their own entry requirements, [00:28.08]such as whether people must show proof of vaccination to attend a show. [00:34.44]Robert Mujica is Governor Cuomo's budget director. [00:39.60]He said that selling tickets will permit theaters [00:43.00]to find out, before the shows open, [00:45.64]how many people want to return to in-person events. [00:50.48]Charlotte St. Martin is president of the Broadway League. [00:54.48]She said in a statement that the group's members are hopeful [00:59.24]"about Broadway's ability to resume performances this fall [01:03.64]and are happy that fans can start buying tickets again." [01:08.80]Phantom of the Opera, Broadway's longest-running show, [01:12.84]announced it planned to resume selling tickets [01:16.68]for performances set to start October 22. [01:21.56]More shows are expected to announce return dates in the coming weeks. [01:27.36]Mary McColl is executive director of Actors' Equity Association, [01:32.64]the national labor union representing [01:35.64]more than 51,000 actors and stage managers in live theater. [01:42.32]She said the news meant the theater community [01:45.96]is "one step closer to the safe reopening" of Broadway. [01:51.52]"We look forward to continuing our conversations with the Broadway League [01:56.12]about a safe reopening and know that soon the time will come [02:01.48]when members can go back to doing what they do best, [02:04.96]creating world-class theater," McColl said. [02:09.56]The Broadway that reopens, however, will look different. [02:13.72]In May, the big budget Disney musical Frozen [02:19.08]decided not to reopen when Broadway theaters restart. [02:24.84]It was the first time the coronavirus pandemic [02:28.24]caused the closing of an established show. [02:32.44]Producers of the play Mean Girls also decided not to restart. [02:38.60]But there will be new shows. [02:41.00]One is Antoinette Chinonye Nwandu's Pass Over, [02:45.64]which is set to reopen at the August Wilson Theatre, [02:49.48]the same theater Mean Girls left. [02:53.64]And playwright Keenan Scott II's play, [02:56.60]Thoughts of a Colored Man, will appear in a Schubert theater. [03:01.92]Theaters see the lifting of all capacity restrictions [03:05.88]as important to any reopening plan. [03:08.96]That is because the economics of Broadway shows require full capacity. [03:16.64]Some off-Broadway shows -- less well-known plays [03:20.52]that take place in smaller theaters around New York City [03:24.12]-- have already reopened with limited capacity. [03:28.36]All city theaters suddenly closed on March 12, 2020, [03:33.08]bringing all shows to an end, including 16 that had still planned to open. [03:40.00]Some shows planned for spring 2020 decided to move their productions to 2021. [03:47.04]Among them are a musical about Michael Jackson [03:50.52]and a performance of Neil Simon's Plaza Suite, [03:54.40]starring Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker. [03:58.72]But others gave up on their plans, including Hangmen [04:02.40]and a production of Edward Albee's famous play, [04:06.08]Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? [04:08.72]I'm Jill Robbins. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
