[00:07.32]Now, it has returned to Earth to be sold. [00:12.20]A single bottle from a case of space-aged Bordeaux [00:16.72]is being put up for sale by the auction house Christie's. [00:22.04]It may cost up to $1 million. [00:26.04]The wine is a 2000 vintage Petrus. [00:30.48]It is considered a world-class red wine [00:33.40]made from Merlot grapes in the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. [00:39.56]The sale was announced Tuesday in London. [00:42.80]Tim Triptree works for Christie's wine and spirits division. [00:48.68]He said the bottle adds to a "greater understanding [00:52.12]of the maturation of wine." [00:55.12]The money from the sale will go to the European rocket company, [00:58.88]Space Cargo Unlimited. [01:02.16]The company has experimented with viticulture and microgravity. [01:07.84]It launched the 12 bottles of Petrus 2000 in November 2019, [01:13.56]and flew them to the International Space Station. [01:18.20]The bottles were taken back to Earth in January. [01:22.32]They spent almost 440 days, [01:25.56]and about 300 million kilometers, in orbit. [01:30.20]The wine returned to Bordeaux, where a bottle was opened for a taste test [01:35.68]at the Institute for Wine and Vine Research. [01:40.24]Top wine experts compared the space-aged wine [01:44.16]with Petrus bottles that stayed on Earth. [01:48.60]Jane Anson is a leading wine critic [01:51.88]and a writer for the wine magazine Decanter. [01:56.12]She and the other two experts [01:58.44]thought there was a clear difference between the two. [02:02.36]The space bottle "seems more evolved than I would expect [02:06.60]from a 21-year-old bottle of Petrus 2000," Anson said in Decanter. [02:13.76]"It is beautiful and nuanced, with fine tannins and a sense energy." [02:21.04]The wine investment company Vinovest [02:24.36]says a bottle of Petrus 2000 usually costs about $5,366. [02:33.20]One sold at auction for $51,660 in 2018. [02:41.48]Christie's is selling a bottle of the space-aged wine, [02:44.68]along with a bottle of the original Earth-aged Petrus 2000. [02:50.88]The purchase also includes a set of glasses [02:53.84]and a corkscrew made from a meteorite. [02:56.92]Christie's says the sale price could reach $1 million.
