[ti:IBM Says New Quantum Processor Could Make Faster Computers] [by:www.51voa.com] [00:00.00]更多听力请访问51VOA.COM [00:00.04]The American technology company IBM [00:03.16]says that it has designed a new, very powerful [00:07.12]quantum computer processor. [00:10.48]The company's leaders made the announcement Monday. [00:14.64]They said the processor, or chip, will lead [00:18.80]to quantum systems performing better [00:21.28]than traditional computer systems at some tasks [00:24.72]within the next two years. [00:27.88]Quantum computers use quantum physics [00:30.60]to perform difficult computing tasks. [00:34.44]IBM said that its Eagle computing chip has 127 qubits. [00:40.96]A qubit is a basic measure of quantum information. [00:46.20]Traditional computers work using bits of information [00:50.00]that represent either 1 or 0. [00:52.84]But qubits can be 1 and 0 at the same time. [00:58.76]Qubits could make quantum computers [01:01.20]work much faster than normal computers. [01:04.08]But they are very difficult to build [01:06.44]and require extremely low temperatures to work correctly. [01:11.20]IBM said that its new Eagle chip [01:13.80]is the first to have more than 100 qubits. [01:19.16]IBM said new refrigeration and control system methods [01:24.08]that it learned building the Eagle chip [01:26.60]will help produce chips with more qubits in the future. [01:31.84]The company said it plans an Osprey chip in 2022 [01:36.32]with 433 qubits and a Condor chip with 1,121 qubits. [01:45.44]In a few years, the company said it will be close [01:49.08]to what is called the "quantum advantage." [01:52.60]That is when quantum computers [01:54.84]are expected to perform better than traditional computers. [02:00.16]Darío Gil is a vice president at IBM [02:03.84]and leads its research division. [02:07.28]He said that quantum computers will not [02:09.92]replace traditional computers all at once. [02:13.16]In the future, he thinks some parts of computer programs [02:17.88]will work on traditional chips [02:20.12]and some parts will work on quantum chips, [02:23.32]whichever works best for each task. [02:27.56]"We believe that we will be able [02:29.44]to reach a demonstration of quantum advantage [02:32.56]— something that can have practical value [02:35.48]— within the next couple of years. [02:37.88]That is our quest," Gil said. [02:41.88]I'm Dan Novak. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
