[00:13.76]The incident happened Sunday [00:16.92]during a Christmas holiday parade in Waukesha, [00:21.64]near the city of Milwaukee. [00:24.48]Five people were reportedly killed in the crash. [00:28.64]A law enforcement official told the Associated Press [00:33.44]that more than 40 others were injured. [00:37.12]The parade included marching bands and children dancing. [00:43.08]A sports utility vehicle, or SUV, [00:46.88]sped through barriers and struck the dancers, musicians and others. [00:52.56]One video of the incident showed a woman screaming, [00:57.20]"Oh my God!" repeatedly as a group of young dancers was struck. [01:02.76]Members of a "Dancing Grannies" club [01:06.44]were also among those killed and injured. [01:10.88]Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson [01:13.96]identified the driver as Darrell Brooks, Jr. [01:17.60]Thompson said there was no evidence [01:20.32]the incident was linked to terrorism. [01:23.72]Brooks was detained [01:25.52]after a Waukesha police officer opened fire [01:29.28]to try to stop the vehicle. [01:32.80]Earlier on Sunday, Brooks had left the site [01:36.20]of a crime before officers arrived. [01:39.48]Police described the earlier crime as an argument involving a knife. [01:45.64]They added that he was not being chased [01:48.68]by police at the time of the crash. [01:53.04]The police chief gave no additional details on the earlier crime. [01:59.12]On social media, the city of Waukesha [02:02.28]said the number of dead was at least five. [02:06.12]The city's live streaming video [02:08.60]captured images of the deadly incident. [02:11.44]So did people who recorded the event with their phones. [02:16.12]One video shows the moment [02:18.28]when the SUV broke through the barriers. [02:21.52]The sound of apparent gunfire can be heard. [02:25.32]Another video shows a young child dancing in the street [02:29.96]as the SUV speeds by before it crashes into parade attendees. [02:37.24]The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies group [02:39.92]wrote on its Facebook page [02:41.72]that some of its members were among the dead. [02:44.96]"Our group was doing what they loved, [02:47.72]performing in front of crowds in a parade [02:51.08]putting smiles on faces of all ages, [02:55.00]filling them with joy and happiness," it wrote. [02:59.68]Chris Germain is co-owner of the Aspire Dance Center studio. [03:05.56]His business had about 70 people in the parade. [03:10.00]That included children as young as 2. [03:13.68]Germain's 3-year-old daughter took part in the parade. [03:18.04]He said he was driving at the head of his group's parade section [03:23.48]when he saw the SUV "just blaze right past us." [03:29.16]Blaze means to move very quickly. [03:33.52]Germain jumped out of his own SUV he was driving [03:37.56]and gathered the girls who were with him to safety. [03:41.52]Then he walked ahead to see the damage. [03:45.12]He said emergency workers were performing [03:48.20]life-saving measures on many people. [03:51.60]"There were small children laying all over the road. [03:54.96]There were police officers and EMTs [03:58.52]doing CPR on multiple members of the parade," he said. [04:04.32]The Waukesha School District canceled classes Monday [04:08.76]and said extra mental health experts would be available [04:13.20]for students and employees. [04:16.12]The parade's list of performers included cheer, [04:20.08]dance and band groups from area schools. [04:24.76]Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers [04:27.60]called the deadly incident a "senseless act." [04:32.44]The Christmas parade is held each year in Waukesha [04:36.40]on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. [04:39.88]I'm Ashley Thompson. 更多听力请访问51VOA.COM
